I DO WISH WE COULD CHAT LONGER, BUT I'M HAVING AN OLD FRIEND FOR DINNER.

If you have't got your tickets for Tuesday's Party in the Stacks at KPL - you've still got time. Live music, great food, and the chance to support the Studio Central project. # # #

The red carpet has been rolled out and vacuumed. The step and repeats are up and ready.

Today's the start of the 2016 Grand River Film Festival - our own local showcase for celebrating the shared experience of film. As you'd expect from GRFF, there's a lot of great films to check out.

The one I want to see is "Search Engines". Directed by Russel Brown, it focuses on people's relationships (or addictions) to their phones. It’s Thanksgiving, and family and friends have just gathered to celebrate togetherness. But when cell phone reception mysteriously goes dead throughout the house, each character is thrown into crisis: marriages are tested, values questioned, and futures hang in the balance.

This movie cuts really close to home for me.

"Search Engines" will be screened this Friday, October 28 at 9:15 at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture (7 Melville Street South, Cambridge, ON).

Where to haunt...

A bunch of millennials in an abandoned night club during Halloween. What could possibly go wrong? If you want to find out, join the Plugin for their Halloween bash at the Abandoned Elements Night Club (90 King St W, Kitchener). The ghoul times start at 9pm this Friday, October 28. Tickets are $13.

Like Jason or Freddy, you can't always be sure Nick and Nat's is gone. Head over this Friday, October 28 for their Beer Brawl at Nick and Nat's Uptown 21. Beer pours at 7pm.

Hold my beer.....I'll be right back....for two nights of live music at Open Sesame. Friday, October 28 features EIYN SOF with special guests The Brackets and Mulligrub. Saturday, October 29 is their Halloween party featuring The Lovegoods and a special show from Catch-A-Laugh Entertainment.

TWH Social has their Halloween party on Saturday, October 29. The night is filled with the sounds of the Brownman Electryc Trio +1 performing the entire Michael Jackson "Thriller" recording. In addition to the quartet performing Thriller top to bottom, other MJ classics will be featured through the night for this unique Halloween weekend jazz party at Kitchener's TWH Social.
