Slight old news - but word on the street is that the former Watami Sushi spot on King Street in Waterloo will soon be the home of a new location of The Captian's Boil. (h/t to @jeffmackw for spotting the sign). Many chains haven't had much success uptown - or in Waterloo in general. Baton Rouge and Carl's Jr weren't able to crack the market. Astrodog Media is throwing their Blast Off Block Party this Thursday, September 8 at 100 Ahrens St in Kitchener. Indulge Organic Kitchen and Descendants Beer and Beverage will be providing food and drink. You'll need to register to attend and be prepared to donate as they're raising funds for the KW Humane Society.

One block party not enough for you? Starlight Social Club has their Annual Block Party on Sunday, September 11. The night features Danny Michel and The Little Big Band with special guest Jim Bryson. Entrance is at Jane Bond.

DC and Aspen Comic Artist Richard Zajac (Huntress, Batwing, Soulfire, and G.I. Joe) will be signing and doing free sketches as part of Lookin' For Heroes' 27th-anniversary celebration on Saturday, September 10. #geekweekwr

Kitchener's Open Sesame is hosting Toronto based artist Niloufar Salimi this Saturday, September 10. Artist Salimi will discuss her drawing practice and the works on display in her exhibition "entanglements," which is on view at Open Sesame until October 8.
