Summer gets busy really fast, so here's two things coming up that you may want to add to your calendar -
Green Light Arts presents "Will You Be My Friend" by Janice Jo Lee at the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Kitchener. Shows runs June 22 to June 25.
Smile.io presents Tame the Lane Block Party on Thursday, June 29 starting at 5pm. They've already tamed the lane between Charles and Ontario, so this year they're tackling the lane behind 305 King Street West.
What to do.
Comedians Graham Chittenden and Amish Patel take the stage at The Registry Theatre on Wednesday, June 14 at 7:30pm.
The Kitchener Market has a cajun and creole cooking class on Wednesday, June 14 at 6:30pm. $49 makes you a master chef and you take home what you make.
Starlight Social Club presents Taylor Knox with special guest Teen Ravine this Thursday, June 15 at 8pm.Tickets are $10 at the door.
Startups and Beer is Thursday, June 15 from 5pm to 9pm. It's a free event where you can learn more about local tech companies Axonify, Dejero, Magnet Forensics, Sortable, Smile.io and Vidyard. Donations will be accepted for their community partner, Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region, who provide a network of support and programming to families living with developmental disabilities in the Region. Craft beer and cider from Stonehammer, KW Craft Cider, Descendents, Four Fathers, Block Three and Grand River Brewing.
Need some more comedy this week? Open Sesame has Jess Salomon on stage this Wednesday, June 15 at 8:30pm. Jess is a former UN War Crimes lawyer turned stand up comic. She has appeared on CBC's The Debaters, at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and she was was a semi-finalist in SiriusXMs Top Comic competition.
The fine folks at Irish Real Life Festival are bringing Bloom's Day to downtown Kitchener. Head down to The Berlin (45 King St, W) on Friday, June 16 from 8-11 for a frolicking, fun evening of James Joyce, in celebration of Ulysses!
Summer Lights 2017 is this Saturday, June 17 starting at 8pm. It's one night where the art, tech, maker, games, music, theatre, dance and business communities collide and make the most amazing experience for everyone to enjoy. Food trucks, live music, a bear. Ok, not so sure about the bear part.
Last minute father's day gift idea - take him to Hops for Pops at the Waterloo Region Museum on Sunday, June 18 from 11am-5pm. $25 plus HST per person includes admission to the museum, Doon Heritage Village and the beer festival, five beer samples and a souvenir sampling cup. Limited tickets available. Purchase in advance to avoid disappointment.
